Step 1 – Check Your Pen 

Proper storage and inspection of your pen are crucial to ensure its safe and effective use. Pens that are not in use should be kept in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Once you’ve used a pen, it can be kept at room temperature but must remain below 30°C. 

Before administering the medication, take a moment to inspect your pen carefully.  

Verify the following: 

• The name and dosage of the medication are exactly as prescribed by the physician. 

• The pen is not past the expiration date and does not have any evidence of physical damage. 

• There are no particles or cloudiness in the pen’s solution. 

• Medications have not been frozen or thawed: Freezers can damage the medication. 

Air bubbles are normal in the pen and may be seen inside it; this never obstructs the injection. You shouldn’t use the pen if you observe any additional issues, such as particles in the solution or a hazy solution. 

Step 2 – Wash Your Hands 

Maintain hand hygiene in preventing infections at the injection site. Wash your hands with soap and water and ensure that all dirt and oils are removed. If available, you may also use an antibacterial hand sanitizer. One of the most important and minimal steps in the safe injection procedure is having clean hands. 

Step 3: Select Your Injection Site 

Your healthcare provider will teach you which injection site would be the best for your needs. Common sites for self-injection include: 

• The stomach and navel should be at least two inches apart. 

• The thigh. 

If you prefer to inject into the back of your upper arm, you will need another person to assist you. Rotate Mounjaro wight loss injection sites each time to avoid irritating the same spot. Step 4 – Prepare the Pen

• To remove the air bubbles that are stuck at the top, hold the pen upright with the needle facing up and tap the pen multiple times. 

• Advance the dose knob fully until it stops, and wait for five seconds. 

• Look for a small droplet of medication at the tip of the needle. 

If no medication appears, repeat the process above up to two more times. If it still doesn’t work, replace the needle and try again. Do not prime over three times with the same needle. 

Step 6 – Injectable The Medicine 

After preparing, turn the dose knob until the ‘1’ icon appears in the dose window. Place the needle in your chosen injection site in the skin. Depress the dose knob fully down and maintain that position for at least five seconds to assure completion of the administered dose. 

Step 7 – Remove Needle 

After completing the injection, confirm that the ‘0’ icon is displayed in the dose window. This shows that the entire dosage has been administered. If the ‘0’ icon isn’t visible, reinsert the needle and complete the injection without redialing the dose. 

Carefully withdraw the needle from the skin. A tiny droplet of medication staying on the needle tip is usual. 

Step 8 – Dispose of the Needle 

Replace the outer needle shield over the needle to dispose of it. Unscrew the needle and dispose of it immediately in a sharps container. Do not place needles in household trash where they may accidentally cause contamination or injury. 

Make sure the pen cap is securely screwed on the pen before putting it in storage. When the pen becomes empty, dispose of it separately from the needle in a regular household bin. 

Side Effects of Mounjaro Injection

Some very common side effects occur when beginning treatment; your body merely reacts to the medication. There are:
